Hyundai Tucson receives top award by IIHS

Drivers in the market for a compact crossover who want protection not only for themselves but also for their passengers, should put the 2016 Hyundai Tucson on the top of their list.

In a recent study by the IIHS Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, shows that the Tucson was the only small SUV out of the seven studied that provided good driver-side and passenger side small overlap ratings.

The IIHS developed the small overlap test in 2012 to see what happens  when the front corner of a vehicle crashes into an object or another vehicle.  The test looks at a width of 25% on the driver and passenger sides.  IIHS also has a moderate overlap test, which involves looking at 40% of the width of the vehicle.  IIHS said that the results from the overlap test has prompted vehicle manufactures to make safety changes.

Hyundai indicated that it is pleased with the results of the IIHS study and said it shows Hyundai’s commitment to ensuring its drivers and passengers are safe and protected.   In 2014 more than 1600 people died from frontal crashes.

Since the small overlap crash test started 13 manufactures have made changes to 97 vehicles to improve safety.

Overall the Toyota Rav4 was the worst performer in the passenger side test according to the IIHS.  IIHS indicated that intrusion measure shows how well the vehicle can hold up in a crash, plus the greater the intrusion the more likely a person will sustain a serious injury.

Auto Loan Terms and Definitions

When searching for a vehicle, that maybe stressful enough.  Because there is a lot to think  about when buying a vehicle such as, will I get financing? What does all  the terminology like “leinholder” and “collateral” all mean?  The terminology and definition below will assist you so that you can be fully informed when making the decision to buy

Credit Score:  Typically refereed to as your “FICO” (Fair Isaac Credit Organization).  A credit score is typically between 400 and 800.  The higher the number the better the score.  This number is impacted if you pay your bills late or on time, how many loans  you have paid off, how long your loans have been open, etc.  A good rule of thumb for building credit is to make sure your payments are in on time.

Interest:  Interest is the cost you pay to BORROW MONEY.  The lower the interest rate, the less you pay back.  Interest rates are determined by several factors, including the government, economy, the finance institution giving you the loan and your credit score.

Finance Charge:  This is how you will pay the interest and fees over the life of the loan.  A car might be priced at $10000.00 but if you pay 7% over 60 months  your total amount you will have to pay back is $11883.00  So your finance charge would be $1883.00

Collateral:  This describes what property you are offering your financial institution to secure the loan with, in case you don’t pay back the money you borrow.  In this case it would be the vehicle.

Lienholder:  The lienholder is the lender whose name is on the collateral during the term of the loan.  For instance, if you take out a car loan from Amato Preferred Credit, until you pay off your loan, your car is the  collateral and Amato Proffered Credit is the lienholder.

Debt Ratio:  How much money you owe each month (your debt) compared to how much income you receive.  For example , if you owe on 3 loans totally $850 each month, and your income is $2500 a month, you would take the $850 divided by $2500 and your debt to income ratio would be 34% (again the lower the number the better)

Loan Terms:  This is how long it will be before the loan is paid off.  A good range for an auto loan is anywhere from 36 months to 84 months.

Vehicle purchase after repossession

Many customers do not know what to do for their next vehicle purchase after a repossession.  At John Amato Hyundai Superstore we specialize in establishing and re-establishing credit even after a vehicle repossession.

What is the Vehicle Repossession Process?

The vehicle repossession process is pretty straightforward.  First, you may receive a letter stating  your loan payment is past due.  This does not always happen.  If it is specified in  your loan contract, you will get a letter.  A few days after the letter is sent,  you will get a phone call from the loan company stating that the payment is late and what you plan to do to avoid repossession.  After a “grace period”  expires the loan company hires a repossession company and they take the vehicle.  You will then receive a letter telling you how much you owe for the loan payments and repo fees.

After Repossession

It may feel like the world stopped because your vehicle was repossessed.  But, in fact it was a vehicle that you could not afford.  It is however a large step back in your financial life, but it won’t stop you from moving forward.  Lenders have been loosing the reigns on the car loan requirements and are now willing to assist customer with problems in their credit.

A vehicle repo can greatly lower your credit score and move you down the standings in credit categories.  At John Amato Hyundai Superstore, we don’t turn away customers that have had issues in the past.  We are here to finance your future  not your past.   We work out a deal that fits you into a budget, but there are a few things that you can do to help

Determine Where your Credit Stands and Repair it

You know your credit score is going to go down because of the repossession.  But it may not be as bad as you think.

Auto loans can be a complicated process and getting approved should not be your only concern.  You want to get favorable terms on the loan as well so  you can afford your payment.  This is all determined by what your credit report says to the lender.  For example, your score is not the only factor

Other factors that impact your loan is:

  • Slow payments or late payments on loans
  • Defaults on loans
  • Repossession
  • Bankruptcy
  • Collection notices

Anyone with these on their credit report will be subject to higher interest rates because they pose a risk to the lender.  You must re-establish your standings for long term loan.  You need to repair your old debt for better future loans and debt.

If you are behind on payments on other loans, you need to bring those payments current.  This shows lenders that you are making an effort to make good with your creditors.  Remember, that rebuilding your credit is not an easy or quick process. It takes time, commitment and discipline to stay on top of your bills.  But, in the end it is worth it to receive better interest rates and terms in the future.

Be Prepared when you Visit John Amato Hyundai Superstore

Having a down-payment is generally a requirement of anyone with less than perfect credit looking to get an approval for an auto loan.  The bigger the down-payment the more options you may have.  Having a down-payment tells lenders that you have control over your finances, which in turn, means they are more favorable to approve your loan application

If you don’t have a down-payment, you can trade in your vehicle, whatever equity you have in your vehicle will be used as a down-payment.

After you have figured out your money situation, and schedule a time to come into John Amato Hyundai Superstore Milwaukee, you need to bring in the following items to turn into the lender

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Current Proof of Income (pay stub)
  • Bill with your name and address on it (utility bill)

You should always bring in the documentation the same day of your visit, so it does not interrupt the loan application with the lenders.  It makes the process go by quicker and smoother and will allow the lender to see that you are organized and serious about making a purchase.

When you are speaking with the finance manager at John Amato Hyundai Superstore, keep in mind they are making sure that everything you say is accurate, so it is best to be completely honest.  Do not lie about past credit or income.  If that happens your loan application may be automatically declined.

Set your Goals Realistically.

You have already been down the road with a vehicle you could not afford the payments on , so do not do that again.  Instead come to terms that in fact the car  you can afford may not have navigation or leather or a sunroof.

Look at cars that fit into your budget and the parameters that the lender set up.  You need to show the banks that you can make on time payments, they are giving you a second chance.  Stick to a vehicle with what you need for now.  Make your payments on time and your  credit will improve, then the next vehicle will probably have all the options that you wanted.

As We See It

Repossession is not the end of the world, it is only a minor set back that you need to correct.  You do not have to give up all hope of ever owning a vehicle again, because we can help you.  We are a special financing dealership that has the tools and experience to get you into another vehicle.  Which in the end rebuilds your credit score.

4 indications your vehicle needs new tires

When should you change your tires?

As seasons change, it’s always a good idea to take inventory of your vehicle’s needs.  For many people that means routine maintenance and the regular oil change.  While these are important steps in the life of your vehicle, it is also a good idea to keep an eye on your tires.

Tread Wear

Not sure if your vehicle has low tread?  Do the penny test.  Simply put the penny with Lincoln’s head down between the tread of the tire. If you can see Lincoln’s head then  you tire needs to be replaced soon.

Tire Pressure

If you are finding yourself having to stop and refill your vehicle’s tires multiple times during the week, you might need new tires.  It’s normal for tires to deflate about one pound per square inch per month, but increased loss of pressure is a warning sign

These typically go hand in hand with low tire pressure.  When a tire deflates, its normal for the tire to then crack and bulge out.  So if you are seeing cracks, gouges or bulges, you might have a slow air leak.  Either way, its a good idea to get it checked out to see if it can be repaired or you just need new tires.

Strange Noises

Hearing thumping or getting vibration when driving your vehicle down the road?  It’s a good idea to bring your vehicle to John Amato Hyundai Superstore Service Center as soon as possible.  A rear tire could be out of balance or there could be another issue.  Either way, get it checked out.

At John Amato Hyundai Superstore, you will find an exceptional team of experts dedicated on getting the repair right the first time.

2016 Hyundai Tucson Recall

Hyundai Motor Company is recalling 81,000 model year 2016 Tucsons that were manufactured May 19, 2015 to March 14,2016

The company warns that the crossover’s secondary backup latch may not adequately hold the hood by itself if the primary latch fails or has been accidentally left unsecured while the vehicle is in motion.

“If the primary hood latch is inadvertently released and the secondary latch cannot secure the hood, the hood may unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a crash,” recall documents say.

Service technicians will install a new secondary hood latch in approximately 81,000 vehicles.
